What is the Film Score Orchestra and Laguna Symphony?
The Film Symphony Orchestra, also known as the Laguna Symphony, is a world class orchestra comprised of 70+ elite musicians whose musical and technical prowess allow them to artistically display a variety of symphonic sounds. As the artistic capital of the California Riviera, Laguna Beach has acquired a well deserved reputation for boasting some of the most unique art forms the world has ever seen. The Laguna Symphony is the brainchild of film score enthusiast and visionary, Joe Eckstrom to expand on Laguna’s artistic reputation by assembling a world class symphonic organization in his hometown dedicated to playing a diverse mix of orchestral music that is both a visual and acoustical masterpiece.
The 2 Orchestras
The diverse nature of our organization speaks to the reason we operate under 2 different names. While the Film Score Orchestra and Laguna Symphony share many of the same musicians, the only delineation is the focus and musical composition of the concerts we perform.
The Film Score Orchestra has cinema at its core, dedicated to playing a wide variety of film scores from legendary composers. Iconic music from movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The GodFather, Back to the Future and Lord of the Rings. Award winning pieces from Braveheart, Dances with Wolves and Gladiator. Blockbusters like Jurassic Park, Inception, Interstellar and music from the Marvel and DC Comic universe such as the Dark Knight, Man of Steel and the Avengers.
The Laguna Symphony plays a diverse mix of music. Some concerts feature classical masterpieces of Bach, Holtz, Strauss and Beethoven while other concerts will include the soundtracks of iconic video games, TV Shows, Hollywood Blockbusters and all types of musical and visual content.
Our Conductor
Maestro Dean Anderson is a conductor like no other. The versatility and creative skill he posses allow him to masterfully lead any orchestra he commands. His passion for bringing symphonic music to the masses make him the quintessential leader of the Film Score Orchestra and Laguna Symphony. The energy, charisma, precision and professionalism he displays are a cornerstone of every concert. Mr. Anderson has conducted orchestras such as the Orquesta del Festival Gaudix Clásica in Spain, and the Orchestra Filarmonica Campana in Italy. He has served as Music Director and Artistic Director for the Dana Point Symphony for almost a decade. He continually strives to champion a diverse blend of repertoire - ranging from the beloved works of Beethoven and Brahms, to newly commissioned works by local and international composers. His international engagements include concerts with professional orchestras in Europe, Asia, and South America. He has served as cover conductor for the San Diego Symphony and has performed with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Seeing him perform live is the show of a lifetime!
